What is basketball IQ?
Basketball IQ is knowing where to be and what to do next: when to cut, when to set the screen, when the pass is open and when to hold your spot. Players with high basketball IQ make those choices without stopping to think.
On a team, a big part of it is knowing the plays. A player who is still working out where to stand cannot read the defense. Basketball IQ in the Bravara app lets players run your plays at home until the spots and the timing are familiar.

Add your plays
Use the plays saved in your Bravara play library, half court or full court. A new team starts with Horns so players can try it right away.

Players pick a spot
Point guard through center, 1 to 5. The coach chooses which spots each player learns. Players can watch the whole play first.

They run it in real time
The player moves with a thumb stick while teammates and defenders follow the routes you drew. The app gives one job per step.

Each job gets a rating
Every job is rated Perfect, Good or Late, and the run ends with one to three stars. Two stars or more counts as learned.

What a player does on each step of a play
The game turns each step of your diagram into a job for the player's spot.
- Move
- Run the cut, dribble or screen route to its end. A curved route has to be followed, not cut short.
- Pass
- Tap the teammate once the pass opens. A pass to the wrong teammate is a turnover and the step starts over.
- Receive
- Be in your spot. The pass waits until you are close enough to catch it.
- Hold
- Stay spaced. A screener who leaves early gets a moving-screen whistle.
- Shoot
- If the play ends with you, hold the shot button and let go at the top of the jump.

Basketball IQ questions
What is basketball IQ?
Basketball IQ is how well a player reads the game and chooses what to do: where to move, when to pass, when to screen and when to shoot. Basketball IQ in the Bravara app is a game that builds it by having players run their team's plays on a 3D court.
How do you improve basketball IQ?
Make more decisions. Watching games and film helps a player see options, and small-sided games force quick choices. Knowing the team's plays matters too, because a player who knows where everyone is going has time to read the defense. Basketball IQ gives players reps on the plays at home.
How do I get my team to remember plays?
Teach a few at a time and have players run them more often than practice allows. In Basketball IQ you set how many new plays open each week, and each player runs them from their own spot until they earn two stars.
Is Basketball IQ a quiz or a basketball IQ test?
It is a game, not a multiple-choice quiz. The player moves, passes and shoots, and each job is rated Perfect, Good or Late. The stars on each play show the coach what a player knows.
Does it come with basketball plays?
It runs your plays. Coaches draw and save plays in Bravara, and those are the plays the team learns. A team with no plays yet starts with Horns.
Can players learn defense?
Not yet. Players run the five offensive spots, and the game moves the five defenders.
Does it need a connection?
No. The game is part of the app and runs offline. Results are saved on the phone and sent the next time it is online.
Is Basketball IQ a separate app?
No. Basketball IQ is inside the Bravara app for iPhone, iPad and Android, next to the team's schedule, chat and drills.
