How to use these soccer drills
What each soccer drill includes
- A short video clip.
- Step-by-step instructions.
- What good looks like.
- How many reps to do.
What you need at home
- A ball that fits the player's age: size 3 through age 8, size 4 for ages 9–12 and size 5 from 13.
- Dribbling and juggling drills need only a ball and a patch of grass, a driveway or a garage floor. A few cones, shoes or water bottles work as markers.
- Passing and first touch drills use a brick or concrete wall, a rebounder or a partner. Shooting drills are best with a goal, but a fence or a wall with a taped target works.
- Turn on "No partner needed" to see the drills a player can do alone.
How often to practice
- Fifteen to twenty minutes, four or five days a week, does more for a young player than one long session on the weekend.
- Ball mastery and juggling are the easiest skills to practice every day. Five minutes of toe taps and sole rolls before school adds up fast.
- Work the weak foot on every drill. Most players need extra time on it.
Soccer drills FAQ
What are good soccer drills for beginners?
Start with toe taps and sole rolls for ball mastery, how to kick a soccer ball for shooting and how to pass a soccer ball against a wall. All four can be done alone and work for players as young as 5 or 6.
What soccer drills can I do at home by myself?
Almost all of them. Ball mastery, cone dribbling, juggling, wall passing, wall first touch, shooting at a wall or backyard goal and the conditioning drills need only a ball and some space. Turn on the "No partner needed" filter to see them.
What soccer drills are good for 8 to 10 year olds?
Ball mastery (toe taps, sole rolls, inside-outside touches), cone dribbling, the Cruyff turn and step over, juggling with a bounce, inside-of-the-foot passing against a wall and laces shots. Use a size 3 ball through age 8 and a size 4 from 9. Keep sessions to 15–20 minutes.
How often should kids practice soccer at home?
Fifteen to twenty minutes, four or five days a week, is plenty for most youth players. Every drill lists the time it takes and how many sets to do, so a player can finish two or three drills in a short session.
How do coaches assign soccer drills to players?
In Bravara Reps, part of the Bravara app, a coach picks drills or videos, assigns them to the whole team or to certain players and sets how many days a week. Players check in with a count when they finish and log one result, like juggles in a row, and the coach sees who has done it.
Where do the drill videos come from?
The clips come from soccer coaches and trainers on YouTube. Each drill plays only the parts of the video that show the drill, credits the channel and links to the full video.
