How to do the drill

  1. 1

Stand facing the ball, close enough to touch it with your toes.

  2. 2

Tap the top of the ball lightly with the bottom of your right toes.

  3. 3

Put that foot down and tap with your left toes. Keep switching.

  4. 4

Go as fast as you can for 30 seconds. Count every tap.

  5. 5

Rest 30 seconds and do 4 rounds. Log your best round.

Coaching cues

  • Light, quick taps.
  • Stay on your toes.
  • Ball stays still.

What good looks like

Quick, light taps on top of the ball while the ball barely moves.

Safety

Tap lightly so you don't step on the ball and roll off it. Wear sneakers or turf shoes, and indoors clear space away from furniture and windows.

Why this drill

Toe taps teach your feet to move fast and land softly on the ball. That quick footwork helps with every touch, turn and dribble.
