The video teaches the pass without a wall. Use the same pass at the target on your wall.

Who
Solo, no partner needed
Ages
6–18
Time
10 minutes
Dose
20 passes with each foot (40 total), 3–5 days a week
Equipment
  • Soccer ball (size 3 through age 8, size 4 for ages 9–12, size 5 for 13+)
  • A brick or concrete wall, or a rebounder
  • Chalk or painter's tape to mark a target

How to do the drill

  1. 1

Mark a target on the wall 2 steps (4 feet) wide. Stand 5 steps (10 feet) back.

  2. 2

Plant your left foot beside the ball, toes pointing at the target.

  3. 3

Turn your right foot out, lock the ankle and pass with the inside of your foot.

  4. 4

Stop the ball when it comes back, then pass again. Do 20 with your right foot.

  5. 5

Switch feet and do 20 more. Count every pass that hits the target. Log your total out of 40.

Coaching cues

  • Plant foot points at target.
  • Lock your ankle.
  • Hit the middle of the ball.

What good looks like

The ball rolls flat along the ground and hits the target at the same speed every time.

Safety

Only use a house wall if a parent says it's okay. Pick a brick or concrete wall away from windows, parked cars and the street; a garage door dents and rattles.

Why this drill

The inside-of-the-foot pass is the pass players use most in games. A wall gives you a pass back every time, so you get lots of touches with both feet in a few minutes.
