  • Soccer ball (size 3 through age 8, size 4 for ages 9–12, size 5 for 13+)
  • Solid wall (brick or concrete) or a rebounder

How to do the drill

  1. 1

Stand 5 steps (about 10 feet) from the wall.

  2. 2

Pass firmly at the wall with the inside of your foot.

  3. 3

Stop the return with one touch so it stays within a step of you.

  4. 4

Do 5 each with your inside, outside and sole, then switch feet.

  5. 5

Count every clean stop. Your total out of 30 is the number you log.

Coaching cues

  • Soft foot.
  • Meet the ball.
  • On your toes.

What good looks like

The ball stops dead within a step of you, ready for your next pass.

Safety

Use a brick or concrete wall or a rebounder, only with a parent's OK, away from windows and the street. Garage doors dent, so skip them.

Why this drill

A good first touch gives you time on the ball. The wall sends the ball back every time, so you get lots of touches with each part of both feet.
