  • A cone (optional)

How to do the drill

  1. 1

Warm up with skips, high knees and 2 easy runs.

  2. 2

Picture a question mark: curve out toward foul ground just before first, then head straight at second.

  3. 3

Sprint from your batting stance. Start the curve 2–3 strides before the bag.

  4. 4

Lean left and touch the inside corner in stride. Count every tight turn, with no slowing or swinging wide.

  5. 5

Take 3–4 hard steps toward second, then stop and look to the outfield. Rest a minute between all 8 runs.

Coaching cues

  • Question mark.
  • Inside corner.
  • Lean and go.

What good looks like

A turn that touches the bag in stride and ends on the line to second, eyes on the field.

Safety

Wear sneakers or cleats on dry, flat ground and rest a full minute between runs.

Why this drill

A tight, hard turn at first puts pressure on the defense. Any bobble or lazy throw becomes a double, and every extra foot in a wide turn gives the fielder more time.
