How to do the drill
- 1
Mark two lines 6 steps (12 feet) apart (4 steps if you're under 10). Get in your stance on one line.
- 2
Slide left: push off your right foot and step out with your left. Your feet never touch or cross.
- 3
Touch the line with your outside foot, push off it, and slide back. Keep your head level with no hopping.
- 4
Count every line you touch in 30 seconds, only if you stayed low and your feet didn't cross.
- 5
Rest 1 minute between rounds. Do 4 rounds and log your best round.
Coaching cues
- Push off the back foot.
- Feet never touch.
- Head stays level.
What good looks like
Low, quick push steps with your head level, feet always apart, and a sharp push back at each line.
Safety
Wear sneakers on a dry, non-slip surface; skip wet or dusty driveways. Indoors, clear furniture well away from both lines.
Why this drill
Staying in front of a dribbler takes quick, low lateral steps. Touching lines against a timer makes you push hard and change direction, the way you do in a game.
