Equipment
  • Basketball (size 5 through age 11, size 6 for ages 12–13 and girls 14+, size 7 for boys 14+)
  • Hoop
  • 5 markers (cones, chalk or shoes)
  • Notebook or phone to write down your score

How to do the drill

  1. 1

Mark 5 spots 5–6 steps (10–12 feet) out: both short corners (baseline, beside the lane), both wings and the top. Ages 8–10 can go closer.

  2. 2

Warm up by making 5 shots close to the rim.

  3. 3

Spin the ball out, catch it balanced and shoot. Rebound and go back to the spot each time.

  4. 4

Take 10 shots per spot and count your makes. Log your total out of 50 and each spot's score.

  5. 5

When you make 35 two sessions in a row, move every spot a step back.

Coaching cues

  • Same distance, same form.
  • Balanced on the catch.
  • Straight up, straight down.

What good looks like

You shoot all 50 with the same form, land where you jumped, and score close from spot to spot.

Safety

Chase rebounds on the driveway only and never into the street. Don't hang on the rim.

Why this drill

A score turns shooting into practice you can measure. Writing down your makes shows which spots need work and whether you are getting better.
