How to do the drill

  1. 1

Stand sideways about 13–15 steps (25–30 feet) from your target.

  2. 2

Make a "K": pitching arm straight up, glove pointing at the target. Hold it one second, balanced.

  3. 3

Let your arm fall loose and fast down the back of the circle.

  4. 4

Brush your hip, release toward the target, and finish tall moving forward.

  5. 5

Do 3 sets of 10. Count every pitch that goes where you aimed, out of 30.

Coaching cues

  • Hold the K.
  • Let the arm fall.
  • Brush and go.

What good looks like

A loose arm fall, the same release spot each time, and pitches near the target, knee to thigh high.

Safety

These count toward the pitcher's daily pitch total. If you work with a pitching coach, follow their cues.

Why this drill

It is the standard pitching warm-up at every level.
