How to do the drill

  1. 1

Stand 2–4 steps (3–8 feet) from a wall, ball in your throwing hand.

  2. 2

Toss it softly at the wall and catch it out in front with two hands.

  3. 3

Pull the ball out right away, bring it up by your ear, and toss again.

  4. 4

Go for 30 seconds and count every transfer. A drop resets your count to zero.

  5. 5

Rest and repeat for 5 rounds. Log your best round.

Coaching cues

  • Catch and grab it.
  • Glove, chest, ear.
  • Fast but clean.

What good looks like

Every catch ends with the ball already in your throwing hand, with no hunting in the glove.

Safety

Use a tennis ball or rubber ball against house and garage walls.

Why this drill

A quick, clean transfer is the difference between an out and a runner on base, and it takes almost no space to practice.
