How to do the drill

  1. 1

Set Tee 1 in the middle of the plate. That's the ball you hit.

  2. 2

Set Tee 2, with a ball, just past your front toes after the stride, same height, off to your side.

  3. 3

Load, stride and hit the ball on Tee 1.

  4. 4

Keep the barrel going toward the pitcher and miss the ball on Tee 2.

  5. 5

Do 2 sets of 10. Count every clean swing (hit Tee 1, miss Tee 2) out of 20.

Coaching cues

  • Swing through a long tunnel.
  • Clear the front ball.
  • Long arms after contact.

What good looks like

A line drive up the middle, and the Tee 2 ball still sitting there.

Why this drill

A staple of fastpitch tee work that shows right away whether the barrel stays in the zone.
