Ball Wraps and Figure 8

Ball wraps and the figure 8 dribble get the ball moving around your head, waist and legs, so your fingertips learn where it is without you looking.

How to do the drill

  1. 1

Wrap the ball around your head, waist, then knees, 10 times each way.

  2. 2

Spread your feet wide and pass the ball in a figure 8 through your legs, 30 seconds each way.

  3. 3

Figure 8 dribble: bounce it front to back through your legs with your right hand. Reach back with your left, dribble it around your left leg and back through.

  4. 4

Keep it going around both legs for 30 seconds, low and short. Count each time it goes through.

  5. 5

Do 3 rounds and log your best.

Coaching cues

  • Fingertips, quick hands.
  • Stay low, flat back.
  • Short dribbles, close in.

What good looks like

The ball never slaps or drops, and the figure 8 dribble stays low with both hands working.

Safety

Dribble on smooth, dry ground only, away from parked cars and never in the street. Indoors, clear space away from furniture, TVs and windows.

Why this drill

Wraps teach your fingertips where the ball is without looking. The figure 8 dribble makes both hands work low and close to your body, which is the base for between-the-legs and behind-the-back moves.
