How to do the drill

  1. 1

Get low: feet wide, knees bent, eyes up.

  2. 2

Pound the ball hard at your right side, waist high, for 30 seconds. Count every dribble.

  3. 3

Go 30 seconds knee high, then 30 seconds ankle high.

  4. 4

Switch to your left hand and do all three heights. Log your best round.

Coaching cues

  • Push it down hard.
  • Ball outside your foot.
  • Chest up, eyes up.

What good looks like

The dribble is loud and even and comes back to the same height every time.

Safety

Dribble on smooth, dry ground only, away from parked cars and never in the street. Indoors, clear space away from furniture, TVs and windows.

Why this drill

The pound dribble builds hand strength and control. A hard dribble spends less time in the air, so it is harder to steal, and every other dribble move starts from it.
