How to do the drill
- 1
Tape a shoulder-wide square on a wall at chest height. Stand 5 steps (10 feet) away.
- 2
Warm up with 5 standing passes each hand: hand behind the ball, step, push, finish thumb down.
- 3
Dribble twice with your right hand. As the ball comes up, get your hand behind it and push it to the square.
- 4
Step toward the wall as you pass, with no stop to hold the ball. Count every pass inside the square.
- 5
Do 2 sets of 10, then switch hands for 2 sets. Log your total out of 40.
Coaching cues
- Pass right off the dribble.
- Step toward the target.
- Snap the wrist, thumb down.
What good looks like
The pass leaves your hand in one quick move off the dribble and flies flat into the square.
Safety
Dribble and pass on smooth, dry ground only, away from parked cars and never in the street. Use brick or concrete, away from windows and garage doors.
Why this drill
Guards pass off the dribble all game: to the wing, into the post, ahead on the fast break. A one-hand push pass is quicker than stopping to gather with two hands, and defenders have less time to read it.
