How to do the drill
- 1
Warm up: swing the ball behind your back hand to hand, 10 each way.
- 2
Get low, feet wide. Dribble with your right hand beside your right hip.
- 3
Swing it behind your back, hand on the side of the ball, so it bounces once by your left foot.
- 4
Go back and forth for 30 seconds without looking back. Count every clean catch. Do 3 rounds and log your best.
- 5
Walk your driveway and back 4 times, going behind your back every few steps.
Coaching cues
- Reach for your back pocket.
- Bounce by your other foot.
- Eyes up.
What good looks like
The ball stays close, bounces by your other foot and comes up in your hand without you looking.
Safety
Dribble on smooth, dry ground only, away from parked cars and never in the street. Indoors, clear space away from furniture, TVs and windows.
Why this drill
Behind the back changes hands with your body between the ball and the defender. It is the move to use when a defender is right beside you and a crossover would get poked away.
