How to do the drill
- 1
Dribble at your right side. Push the ball in like a crossover, then pull it back out.
- 2
Jab your left foot and lean in as it goes in. Go 30 seconds each hand.
- 3
Set a cone 8 steps (16 feet) away. Dribble at it, in and out, then burst past with 3 fast dribbles.
- 4
Hesitation: slow down at the cone, stand up a little, then burst past.
- 5
Do 5 of each move with each hand. Count every clean move. Log your total out of 20.
Coaching cues
- Sell it with your shoulders.
- Slow, then fast.
- Hand on top.
What good looks like
The ball goes in and back out in the same hand, and your first push after it is fastest.
Safety
Dribble on smooth, dry ground only, away from parked cars and never in the street. Indoors, clear space away from furniture, TVs and windows.
Why this drill
The in and out and the hesitation beat a defender with a fake and a change of speed. The ball stays in your outside hand, away from the defender's reach.
