How to do the drill
- 1
Set a chair in the lane, 3 steps (6 feet) from the rim. Start 6 steps (12 feet) back from it.
- 2
Dribble at it with your right hand. Pick up the ball as your left foot lands, just left of the chair.
- 3
Step long across to the right with your right foot, swinging the ball low. Jump off it and lay it in right-handed.
- 4
Walk it 5 times each way first. Then do 10 this way, 10 the other way (left hand), and 10 switching.
- 5
Count a make only if you took two steps after the pickup. Log your total out of 30.
Coaching cues
- Ball up as step one lands.
- Long second step.
- Keep the ball away.
What good looks like
Two clear steps in two directions, the second one long enough to get past the chair, then a soft finish.
Safety
Use a sturdy chair or a cone and keep it off the landing spot under the rim. Land with soft knees and don't hang on the rim.
Why this drill
The euro step gets you around a defender who steps in front of your drive. Learning it with a clean pick-up keeps the move legal at every level.
